Until 2002 our bodega only produced one wine – Casal Caeiro, the original brand created by our founder Domingo Martin.
Although our bodega only cultivates one grape variety, each parcel of the albariño we produce is vinified separately. We began to notice over time that individual vineyard sites added their own distinctive character to our finished wines - ”Terroir” as the French would call it. The result of specific combinations of soil, subsoil and microclimate.
For example, our ‘El Pazo’ vineyard is well drained, enjoys perfect exposure, and most importantly, is positioned on a bed of granite and quartz. The grapes from this vineyard form the foundation of our Castro Martin ‘Family Estate’ wine, and as you might expect, the finished wine is dry, finely structured, and has a mineral backbone. A very distinctive character mostly derived from the soil.
